First 2012 NFL Mock Draft

With only two weeks to go before the first round of the NFL Draft, here is my first mock draft of the year. Expect another update the weekend prior to the NFL draft. Enjoy!

1. Indianapolis- Andrew Luck/ QB Stanford. Enough of the RG3 speculation. The Colts will draft Luck with the number one overall pick and he will be their next Peyton Manning
2. Washington- Robert Griffin/ QB Baylor. They gave up 3 first rounders to move a up only a few slots. I guess that’s what happens when the last time the team had an established starting quarterback was arguably Mark Rypien.
3. Minnesota- Matt Kalil/ T USC. The quarterback is potentially in place for years to come, but the line is among the worst in the league.
4. Cleveland – Trent Richardson/ RB Alabama. This pick will come down to Richardson and Claiborne. They Browns already have a stud corner with Joe Haden, Peyton Hillis was lost, Montario Hardesty can’t stay healthy, and Chris Ogbannaya doesn’t scare anyone. Edge=Richardson.
5. Tampa Bay- Morris Claiborne/ CB LSU. Aquib Talib is trouble and there really isn’t much behind him, even though the Bucs just signed Eric Wright. The Bucs took a change on LaGarrette Blount so it’s not like they will be scared by Claiborne’s Wonderlic score of a 4.
6. St. Louis- Justin Blackmon/ WR Oklahoma State. This may be the quickest pick in the first round if Blackmon is still on the board.
7. Jacksonville- Melvin Ingram/ DE South Carolina. The biggest need for the Jaguars is obviously the defensive line so it comes down to Coples and Melvin Ingram. Rumor has it that the Jaguars really like Ingram.
8. Miami- Ryan Tannehill/ QB Texas A&M. After failing to get Matt Flynn in free agency, the next best option is Tannehill at number 8.
9. Carolina- Luke Kuechly/ LB Boston College. The future of Thomas Davis is up in the air and Kuechly is the best linebacker prospect in the draft.
10. Buffalo- Reilly Reiff/Iowa T. Even before the Bills lost Demetrius Bell in free agency to Philadelphia, there were issues on the offensive line.
11. Kansas City- David DeCastro- G Stanford. This is one of the hardest picks to mock in the draft, as the Chiefs could go many different ways here from safety, defensive tackle, linebacker, or offensive line.
12. Seattle- Quinton Coples/ DE North Carolina. The Seahawks were among the worst teams in the league last year at getting to the quarterback
13. Arizona- Michael Floyd/ WR Notre Dame. This will give Kolb an additional weapon and take pressure off of Larry Fitzgerald.
14. Dallas- Mark Barron/ S Alabama. The Cowboys have had serious issues at safety for a while now. Barron is especially strong in run support.
15. Philadelphia- Fletcher Cox/ DT Mississippi State. Cox will get serious consideration from Carolina at number 9, but if he last until 15, the Eagles should and will pick him.
16. New York Jets- Courtney Upshaw/ DE Alabama. A 3-4 linebacker with extreme pass rushing ability seems like a perfect fit for a 3-4 unit that can’t get to the quarterback.
17. Cincinnati- Stephon Gilmore/ CB South Carolina. The Bengals need secondary as Jonathan Joseph’s departure to Houston last offseason hurt and Nate Clements is turning 35.
18. San Diego- Nick Perry/ LB USC. The Bolts look for help to upgrade their pass rush in their 3-4. Perry may still be a little raw but his strongest attribute is getting to the quarterback.
19. Chicago- Whitney Mecrilus/DE Illinois. The Bears take the home-grown product from the Fighting Illini to complement Julius Peppers
20. Tennessee- Janoris Jenkins/ CB North Alabama. With Courtland Finnegan's departure in free agency, Jenkins becomes the best option. Jenkins may be the 2nd most talented corner in the draft but he does come with character concerns.
21. Cincinnati- Cordy Glenn/ T Georgia. Another huge need for the Bengals is left guard, and Glenn fits the scheme very well.
22. Cleveland- Kendall Wright/ WR Browns. The Browns may have the worst set of receivers in the league. Wright reminds me a lot of Panthers receiver Steve Smith.
23. Detroit-Dre Kirkpatrick/ CB Alabama. This selection will likely be a corner and Kirkpatrick gets the nod over Gilmore
24. Pittsburgh- Dont’a Hightower/ LB Alabama. The Steelers will not hesitate to make Hightower the replacement to James Farrior if he is still around at 24.
25. Denver- Michael Brockers / DT LSU. The Broncos need an immediate impact at defensive tackle now that Broderick Bunkley departed via free agency.
26. Houston- Stephen Hill/ WR Georgia Tech. Enough of Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones complementing Andre Johnson. This team needs a true threat.
27. New England- Harrison Smith/ S Notre Dame. Smith seems to be flyingup draft boards and the Patriots still have major issues in their secondary.
28. Green Bay- Andre Branch/ OLB Clemson. The Packers may trade down into the front of the second round, but if they stay put I see them drafting a pass rusher opposite Matthews. Reports are the Packers were very interested in Branch at the combine.
29. Baltimore-Peter Konz/ C Wisconsin. Matt Birk isn’t getting any younger and Konz fits the Ravens blocking scheme perfectly.
30. San Francisco- Coby Fleener/ TE Stanford. Harbaugh will draft his college tight tend and pair him with Vernon
Davis to try and rival Hernandez and Gronkowski in New England
31. New England- Kendall Reyes/ DT UConn. Reyes is a very versatile player, which Bellichek craves when designing his defenses.
32. New York Giants- Jonathan Martin/ T Stanford. Not many needs for the Super Bowl champs, but Will Beatty is not the long-term answer at tackle.
